I am very proud to announce that my short story, “Ritual,” (https://madvillepublishing.com/product/runaway/ text: won first place) in Madville Publishing’s Runaways anthology competition! The anthology comes out in Spring 2020—Madville’s aiming for March—and I could not be more excited.

“Ritual” is one of my favorite pieces. Robert Morgan, novelist of Gap Creek and the instructor of my independent study in fiction, called it my “most immediate” piece. I’m proud of it, and now I can be prouder.

It’s vindicating to have won. This might be my first professionally published piece, but it won’t be my last.

I’m really doing this.
